Timeline to Fulfil an Accommodations Request

The following steps will be taken by Learning Support Services staff to process your accommodations request in a timely manner. LSS reviews requests during regular business hours (M-F from 9am-6pm).

Day 1 (when LSS receives your email request):

  • LSS will verify your accommodations with your DRC Coordinator.
  • LSS will respond to your email, letting you know that your request has been received and will be processed in a timely manner.
  • Learning Support Services will look to see if a tutor or learning assistant has already been hired for the class(es) in which you need tutoring.

Day 1-2:

  • If a tutor or learning assistant is already hired for that class, LSS will see if they are available to take on the extra hours needed to fulfill your request. *You will get an email update from LSS staff.
  • If a currently hired tutor is not available, LSS will reach out to other hired tutors/learning assistants who have taken the class and done well in it. *You will get an email update from LSS staff.

Day 2-3:

  • If no current employees can take on the request, LSS will have to reach out to the pool of applicants. *You will get an email update from LSS staff.
  • LSS will send an email to our pool of applicants to recruit a qualified candidate.
  • LSS will also contact the professor for a potential list of recommended students who are qualified to tutor in the class(es) you requested.

Day 4-7:

  • LSS will interview any qualified applicants to fulfill your request

Day 7-12:

  • If an applicant is qualified, they will be hired. *You will get an email update from LSS staff.
  • If the applicant is a new hire at UCSC, they will be directed to the career center to fill out all necessary paperwork before they can start working. This may take longer if qualified candidate doesn’t have necessary hiring documentation with them at UCSC.

Day 13-14:

  • Once all of the new-hire paperwork is complete, Learning Support Services will introduce you to your tutor(s) via email.

Day 14:

  • You will begin working with your tutor.
