Small Group Tutor:

What we ask you to do: 

  • Review information about Small Group Tutoring and how students access services
  • Incorporate your LSS Team into your teaching team 
  • Share any resources that will help the LSS Team align their sessions with your goals for student learning
    • Syllabus, practice problems you may be using, copy of the book you are using, learning outcomes for your course, etc. 
  • If you haven’t already, add this blurb about Small Group Tutoring to your syllabus to let your students know that your class is supported with Small Group Tutoring.
  • Advertise LSS services and your LSS Team’s schedule on Canvas, class website, and/or during lecture

    • Direct your students to LSS instructions to view the schedule and sign-up for sessions, 
    • Inform your students about the important sign up dates
    • Allow your LSS team to make a brief announcement during lecture,
  • Consider offering extra credit (1-5%) to encourage students to attend LSS resources 
    • Please reach out to us directly if you would like to request attendance records to offer extra credit, rather than asking your Small Group Tutors since we ask them not to share student attendance data.

LGT:

What we ask you to do: 

  • Review information about LGT and how students access LGT (It’s different than all past quarters)
  • Incorporate your LSS Team into your teaching team 
  • Share any resources that will help the LSS Team align their sessions with your goals for student learning
    • Syllabus, practice problems you may be using, copy of the book you are using, learning outcomes for your course, etc. 
  • If you haven’t already, add this blurb about the LGT program to your syllabus to let your students know that your class is supported with LGT.
  • Advertise LSS services and your LSS Team’s schedule on Canvas, class website, and/or during lecture

What we ask you to do:

  • Incorporate your SI Leaders into your teaching team 
  • Share any resources that will help the LSS Team (SI Leaders) align their sessions with your goals for student learning
    • Syllabus, practice problems you may be using, copy of the book you are using, learning outcomes for your course, etc. 
  • Advertise LSS services and your LSS Team’s schedule on Canvas, class website, and/or during lecture 
    • Direct your students to LSS instructions for view the schedule and sign-up for sessions, 
    • Inform your students about the following important dates (see email you should have received from LSS for details) 
    • Allow your LSS team to make a brief announcement during lecture.
  • Consider offering extra credit (1-5%) to encourage students to attend LSS resources 
    • Please reach out to us directly if you would like to request attendance records to offer extra credit, rather than asking your SI Leaders, since we ask them not to share student attendance data. 
  • Share student grades at the end pf the term with the SI Coordinator
    • More information is provided at the SI Kickoff Workshop
    • Grade information will help our unit reach SI accdredition

What we ask your LSS team to do:

  • Introduce themselves to you via the SI Kickoff Workshop (or email if anyone is unable to attend) and set up a meeting via Zoom to share who they are with you
  • Attend lectures (synchronous courses), watch lecture videos (asynchronous courses), and review class material
    • SI Leader Sessions are catered to each unique lecture
  • Submit availability to LSS to schedule SI sessions during the first week of the quarter. All services will be provided in-person.
  • Prepare for SI sessions based on class content 
  • Meet weekly with SI Tutor Mentor and other SI leaders to problem solve difficult sessions, gain facilitation techniques, and receive weekly observations and feedback on sessions
  • Become familiar with Zoom platform & features

Writing Program (Group and Individual):

Writing Group Program for POLI Courses

What we ask you to do: 

    • Incorporate your LSS Team into your teaching team 
    • Share any resources that will help the LSS Team be successful
      • Syllabus, copy of the book you are using, learning outcomes for your course, your expectation for students, etc. 
    • If you haven’t already, add this blurb about Writing Groups to your syllabus to let your students know that your class is supported with Writing Groups.
    • Your students can also sign-up for 1-hour individual appointments with a Writing Tutor.LSS Writing tutors provide support in all disciplines. Each tutor holds interactive writing appointments to focus on developing a student’s writing skills and actively engage them in their writing process. 
    • Advertise LSS services and your LSS Team’s schedule on Canvas, class website, and/or during lecture 
      • Direct your students to LSS instructions for view the schedule and sign-up for sessions, 
      • Inform your students about the following important dates
  • Politics/Legal Studies Courses 
          • POLI/LGST students (see our classes supported page to check if we support your course) in priority groups will be given Priority Sign Up. Priority groups include EOP students, transfer students, and other underrepresented groups. An email to invite students to sign up will be sent out from our office, including instructions on how to sign up. 
  • Sign ups for all other students who are not in a priority group will open when Tutortrac opens

What we ask the LSS tutor to do:

  • Introduce themselves to you via email and set up a 15-minute meeting via Zoom to share who they are with you 
  • Prepare to engage students in writing topics and how they relate to the course: reading strategies, selecting credible sources, developing an argument, outlining and organizing an essay, revising and editing, proofreading and writing mechanics.
  • Submit availability to LSS to schedule Writing Group sessions during the first week of the quarter. All services will be provided in-person.
  • Prepare for Writing Group sessions based on class content 
  • Become familiar with Zoom platform & features

Writing Group Program for Non-POLI Courses

What we ask you to do: 

  • Incorporate your LSS Team into your teaching team 
  • Share any resources that will help the LSS Team be successful
    • Syllabus, copy of the book you are using, learning outcomes for your course, your expectation for students, etc.

Individual Writing Program

What we ask you to do: 

  • Review information about writing appointments and how students access writing services
  • Respond to this email if you are interested in having a writing tutor make a quick 5-10 minute in class announcement at the start/end of your lecture Week 1 or 2 (let us know if you have a preference). During this time, they will introduce themselves and share information about writing support with students.
  • Incorporate your LSS Team into your teaching team 
  • Share any resources that will help the LSS Team be successful
    • Syllabus, learning outcomes for your course, your expectations for students, etc. 
  • If you haven’t already, add this Writing Tutoring Appointments Blurb to your syllabus to let your students know that your class is supported with Individual Writing Appointments.
  • Advertise LSS services and your LSS Team’s schedule on Canvas, class website, and/or during lecture 
    • Direct your students to LSS instructions for view the schedule and sign-up for sessions, 
    • Inform your students about the important sign up dates
    • Encourage students to sign up for 1.25-hour writing tutoring appointments consistently throughout the quarter to promote utilization
  • Consider offering extra credit (1-5%) to encourage students to attend LSS resources. LSS recommends asking students to turn in the notes they took during tutoring into the professor to encourage students to actively engage with feedback.

  • Submit availability to LSS to schedule writing appointment availability during the first week of the quarter. All services will be provided in-person.

  • Attend a weekly writing tutor training with an LSS coordinator

Reading Group Tutor
